The Role

We are searching for our next Head of SEO to manage our department and continue to expand our team across the country. In this role, you will be responsible for SEO strategy across the agency as well as pushing new ideas and thought leadership in the space. If you have a passion for SEO, strong experience managing teams, and have deep technical expertise then this could be your perfect match! You Will Be

  • Overseeing a team of 30+ individuals, directly supervising directors
  • Leading SEO strategy with emphasis on holistic, scalable and innovative approach  
  • Serving as agency lead for all vendor and partner connections
  • Working directly with the Sales team to create opportunities for new business growth
  • Determining long term vision of the SEO department as well as continually innovating and staying ahead of the changing digital marketing landscape
  • Providing growth mapping & goal setting, personal development, cultivating individuality, and performing annual formal performance reviews
  • Driving and overseeing SEO work for team and clients, including strategy, development, tactical expertise, and measurement of SEO programs
  • Spearheading the ideation and development of tech-enabled SEO automation
  • Developing bespoke service solutions and strategies for our most complex, Enterprise SEO programs 
  • Providing direct and consistent collaboration with other Wpromote Earned Media teams, including Content Marketing, Content Development, Affiliate, Influencer Marketing, and Earned Media Strategy to determine cross-channel strategies for client success
  • Working with directors to determine the correct roles, responsibilities, and expertise needed to scale and grow the SEO practice
  • Managing the recruitment, retention, and professional development of the SEO team
  • Collaborating with Wpromote Marketing leadership to spearhead PR initiatives which include Forrester interviews, event attendance, content development for agency and industry publications, audit/sales pitches, case studies, etc
  • Developing and submitting department nominations for notable industry awards
  • Leading strategic RFP responses and sales presentations for priority opportunities 
  • Identifying and determining SEO opportunities for all clients as they align with their digital marketing goals and strategies
  • Accountable for the quality of all SEO plans/strategies/services delivered to clients as well as client satisfaction
  • Acting as a central resource for information related to SEO – facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing, and encourage the groundswell for SEO across teams and offices
  • A key liaison with other department heads, executive leadership, and account teams, to ensure investment and strategy alignment
  • Partnering with account teams to ensure managers are providing innovative solutions and strategies to end clients and sharing learnings with the team and agency
  • Working closely with internal stakeholders to provide thought leadership pertaining to emerging trends in SEO and collaborate on supporting and reaching holistic agency goals
  • Spearheading the development of new service offerings as they arise, both for client and revenue growth
  • Reporting to the Vice President of Earned Media and other upper executives on key client service pillars: same-store growth, retention, new business and partnerships

You Must Have

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the development and implementation of SEO technical and Content strategy as it relates to organic optimization
  • Prior staff management, development and mentoring experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or equivalent practical experience. A Master’s degree in a related field is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead a SEO discipline within an agency/business in a highly collaborative environment to develop and execute SEO strategies, plans, and programs for clients in a variety of industries
  • Deep knowledge of all aspects of the SEO space: platforms, vendors, measurement, content creation, technology, UX
  • Experience overseeing Enterprise SEO campaigns at scale across regions, lines of business, and brands 
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about complex issues, leading to thoughtful recommendations, action plans, and campaigns that drive high ROI
  • An innovative and strategic mindset which includes thinking forward to new algorithm changes, being proactive about future technology, and collaborating on new strategies for improved ranking and traffic
  • The ability to oversee the SEO business unit while reporting to the senior leadership team
  • Strong Understanding of technical implementation to assist with articulation and execution on a variety of platforms (WordPress, Magento, Shopify, Salesforce, and additional CMS experience is a plus) 
  • Practical knowledge of and experience with Python and Google Apps Script development, specifically within the context of SEO (e.g. data analysis, NLP, etc.)
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and Javascript
  • Strong knowledge with measurement and reporting tools such as Google Analytics, Google Data Studio, Adobe Analytics, and Google Search Console
  • Previous experience with crawling and rank reporting tools such as SEMrush, BrightEdge, Whitespark, Moz, Ahrefs, and Screaming Frog
  • Strong understanding of optimization for alternative search engines, social platforms, and marketplaces, including iOS and Google Play stores, YouTube, Pinterest, and Amazon
  • Working knowledge of paid media and other services in relation to SEO
  • Knack to delegate efficiently and manage internal teams in the development and execution of effective planning and execution
  • A track record of participating in successful new business pitches that generate growth
  • The ability to use consumer insights data, organic performance, and key trends to inform the development of strategies and plans
  • Strong time and project management skills, with the ability to identify and respond to situations rapidly
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; including strong presentation skills
