Welcome to the twelfth installment of our employee spotlight! We’d like to take a minute and introduce you to Matt Souza, Director of On-Site SEO here at Wpromote.
Q: What do you look forward to most on Monday?
A: Lately I’ve been looking forward to coming in and talking about the latest Game of Thrones or Walking Dead episode with my coworkers! (The season finales for both were INCREDIBLE, by the way…wow!) Obviously, the flipside of this is when one of us hasn’t watched the episode from the night before and we’re forced to bite our tongues until Tuesday or (god forbid!) Wednesday to talk about it.
Q: What is your favorite Wpromote event?
A: I’m a fan of the Annual Chili Cook-Off! We split up into teams and come up with recipes, then there’s a big party where the chili is dished out to the whole company. Everyone gets super creative trying to one-up the competition. The beer is free, but it’s BYOHS (bring your own hot sauce).
Q: What is your favorite work perk?
A: God, there are so many I like. The massages are great (even though I secretly cry every time) and Fine Wine Friday is super fun because we get to mingle with most of the company and be social. But I think half-day Fridays in the summer and before holidays takes the cake. Never had a perk like that at any other company!
Q: When were you hired? What was your starting position?
A: I was hired in July of 2013 (can’t believe it’s been 3 years already!) as an SEO Specialist. Was promoted to Manager after a few months, then Senior Manager, and now Director. One of my favorite things about Wpromote though is that no matter what position you’re in, your voice can be heard and you can effect change throughout the entire organization.
Q: What’s your favorite book?
A: Ugh, this one’s really tough. I really love Game of Thrones, and I’ve read everything that Kurt Vonnegut ever did. But if I had to pick one stand alone book it’s probably Shogun by James Clavell. It’s a classic “fish out of water” story, except in this case the fish turns into a samurai in feudal Japan.
Q: What’s your go-to LA activity?
A: When I have guests in town I always take them to the Griffith Observatory. I’m a big space-geek so I force it on everyone. Plus you can’t beat the view!
Q: What’s your perfect Sunday-Funday?
A: My perfect Sunday-Funday is sitting on my couch, watching Tom Brady throw touchdown passes. #TB12forPresident
