As 2015 comes to a close there’s nothing more exciting than daydreaming about all the success you’ll achieve in 2016, am I right? As the holy grail of all marketing campaigns, your content marketing calendar is extremely important and what better way to prepare for success than planning out your content marketing calendar for 2016. Here are a few ways to boost your content marketing calendars and campaigns!

Always Plan A Quarter At A Time

These days, a month-to-month calendar won’t cut it with how quickly things move. Avoid low-quality and rushed content by planning 3 months at a time. Thinking ahead will ensure the smoothest ride possible and give you plenty of time to coordinate the execution with your team members. Make sure you cover the obvious in your calendar like product/service launches, partnership announcements or updates, and content related to the season.

Timely Content

As many organizations tie promotions with holidays like Labor Day and the Fourth of July, find business-related holidays to celebrate. If you were a company that sells tea and coffee it would make sense to look out for beverage-related holidays. Did you know that National Coffee Day was on September 29th this year? That could be a great time to post some unique recipes or give your consumers a nice “thank you” in celebration of the day. Some quick and easy research should give you some great opportunities on the timely content you’re looking for.

Look Back Before You Leave The Past, In The Past

Before turning over a new leaf, look back at the past year. What content resonated with your consumer base? What worked? What didn’t? Analyze your findings and apply it to 2016. You’ll be surprised at what stands out and can usually get a good sense of what to stay away from in 2016. Here are a few questions to ask yourself while you’re digging through your data:

  • What generated engagement, sales, shares, etc.?
  • Who was the audience?
  • What drove the interest?
  • Could I have done a better job with the execution of this initiative?

Make A New Year’s Resolution

In the new year don’t be afraid to test, test, test! You can gain a lot of insight into how your visitors respond to your content and at times even discover you just launched something that was wildly successful! Don’t forget to identify your KPI’s before you execute an initiative and analyze your findings. It will always lead you a step closer to better content. Cheers to a great 2016!
