The talk addresses website structure, duplicate content, inventory management, and content (yes, as different from duplicate), plus how to leverage each to put your site in the best possible position for search engine optimization. A few key takeaways include:
- Website Structure: Build a site that “Google gets.” Opt for a hierarchical structure over a flat structure, and always design your site to have descriptive URLs.
- Duplicate Content: Your content should always be unique, relevant, and authoritative. You don’t want to have the same content on your own site twice – or the same content as another site.
- Inventory Management: Align your actual inventory with how it appears on your site and tailor pages to present different options when an item is out of stock. Always develop a custom 404 error page for users to interact with.
- Content: Have unique and interesting content on oft-overlooked category pages, as well as product pages. Add a review system – but only if your site can support it.
