Hey socialites! Welcome back to another weekly roundup of all things social media. We have a few important updates to get to you, so let’s get right down to business.
Facebook is making two small tweaks to its News Feed in order to keep the feed fresh and up-to-date with timely posts. The first tweak will put a greater priority on posts that pertain to trending topics, and therefore, will place those topics higher in the News Feed. For example, if you’re watching your favorite football team dominate this weekend (let’s hope they do), you may see more posts higher on your News Feed about the game as it is trending.
The second tweak has more to do with the timeliness of a post. Currently, Facebook looks at how many likes and comments a post receives to establish how high to put it in the News Feed. However with this new update, Facebook will look at when likes, shares, and comments occur and move the posts accordingly. Going back to our football example, if people are commenting on a post about how your team is playing (i.e. the fact that Atlanta is up 56-0 over Tampa Bay in the third quarter), it will be moved up in the News Feed. Yet, after the game is done, and less people are interacting with a post, it may be moved down.
Facebook Update For iOS 8
If you haven’t heard, the new iPhone came out today, and along with it is the new iOS 8. Now the new iOS 8 has the ability for Facebook users to share content more easily with its share icon. For example you can simply click the share icon to share a website from your browser. This will make sharing the tour dates of your favorite band, videos of your dog in his Halloween costume from your camera roll, or even your high score on Candy Crush easier than ever. While this change is a good one for Facebook, they also made it very clear that even with the new Location Services for the iOS 8, nothing is changing in respect to Facebook’s access to your location.
Twitter For iPhone Overhaul
On Thursday, Twitter made its “biggest update to profiles to date” announcement. This update puts an emphasis on the viewing experience of a person’s profile, as it now allows you to see three separate tabs at the top of the profile: Tweets, Photos, and Favorites. The update also makes it so a person’s bio automatically surfaces on their profile so you won’t have to swipe on the top of the profile header image anymore.
Audience Manger Tool For Twitter
Earlier this week, Twitter announced an update to its advertising platform that will now allow more features to help target specific audiences. With the new update you can create targeted lists of users who have shown significant interest in your app. Also, another wrinkle Twitter has added with this update is the ability to do look-alike targeting in order to target similar audience profiles to people who have already downloaded your app.
