New Link Building Tools

Kevin Burns | August 2nd, 2011

Let me restate the obvious, building links between your website and other high quality websites in your niche, is an essential aspect of your search engine optimization (SEO) campaign.  I am assuming your link building campaign is well on its way, you have reached out to the professional associations in your niche, you have guest blogged on websites in your industry, you have hopefully formed partnerships with other websites, and your social media efforts have been met.  Great.  But now what?  All the basics have been covered, so you have to dig a little deeper.  This blog will cover my favorite tools for the inevitable wall that all link builders run into, and how to get momentum again with your new link building prospects.

Wordtracker is a tool that I have been using for about a week now with much success.  You can try it out with a free seven day trial.  They provide a great tutorial about their Link Builder tool, which outlines the steps to get started and the available capabilities.  Wordtracker generates a list of websites that are relevant to your website by collecting your website’s targeted key terms or websites that are already linking to you.  I am still getting used to this one, but overall it does a great job of finding not only websites that would be a good link prospect, but also the exact page that would be most appropriate for hosting your link.

thinkLA Schmooze Cruise 2011

Maria Sass | July 20th, 2011

Lexus. VW. Toyota. Honda. LA Auto Show? Not quite. These were some of the many advertising accounts represented at the highly anticipated thinkLA Schmooze Cruise.

Wpromote's Marcy Zuendel and Maria Sass at this year's thinkLA Schmooze Cruise

This year, the Schmooze Cruise sold-out the first day tickets went on sale, a record, and huge accomplishment, for thinkLA (although to the dismay of some). This could be due to this years theme, Capture The Moment: Prom Night, or because, well, LA has a lot of love for advertising. We have the entertainment industry. We have sun and sand. But what many people don’t know is that LA is the home of some of the largest advertising agencies and accounts. Saatchi & Saatchi, Deutsch, TBWA/Chiat/Day, Team One, RPA, and even start-up agencies, such as Spark44, are all located in this beautiful place we are fortunate enough to call home. There were also many interactive and online advertising agencies present, such as Break Media, Radium One, and the #1 ranked search engine marketing firm.

Last Thursday 550 ad-men and ladies alike came out to support advertising, thinkLA, and spend time with friends who they most likely once worked with at one point during their advertising career. Guests lined up to board “The Entertainer” yacht in Marina Del Rey, and were greeted by thinkLA hosts with a corsage and boutonnière, as well as some non-traditional prom accessories, such as RayBan Wafer-esq sunglasses in nearly every color imaginable. Glasses of champagne in hand, guests were ready for Prom to begin.

A Stroke Of Bad Luck In NYC & The Continued Expansion Of Yelp

John Vantine | July 19th, 2011

This past Tuesday I returned to Los Angeles from an awesome week on the east coast with my girlfriend. The trip was jam-packed with fun – I got to see lots of friends and family, and we covered a lot of ground. We flew into Philadelphia, and then drove to upstate New York for Camp Bisco, which was ridiculously fun.

After Camp, we drove to NYC. I was driving a minivan which was jam packed full of stuff from the festival – coolers, clothing, camping stuff, etc.

Manhattan Skyline, NYC

After sitting in traffic in the Times Square area for over an hour trying to find reasonably priced parking, I gave up and pulled the van into the first parking garage I could find. Take note that there was no real research behind my parking choice, only frustration and a strong desire to get out of the car.

6 Geek-Tastic Uses Of The QR Code

Jennifer Kavak | July 18th, 2011

As marketing has made its way from the print era over on to the digital realm, QR Codes have sprung up as a tool to transmit virtually any kind of information. By scanning the 2-D image on a smart phone, companies and individuals alike create QR codes for several purposes, such as increasing traffic to websites, boosting eCommerce, making phone calls, and so on. With the exponentially increasing usage of social media outlets, QR Codes have become creative with where they place the code and what information is shared. And whether you’re a VP at Proctor & Gamble, or simply just a devoted geek, you can place QR codes in these locations to promote just about anything.

1. T-Shirts & Accessories

What better way to market a product (or yourself) by wearable advertisements? Custom T-shirt sites, like Zazzle.com, can generate QR Codes for you to fashionably sport your brand. What I have noticed about the QR T-Shirt is the flirty aspect that comes with this relatively geeky concept. But if you’re simply single and ready to mingle, why not generate a QR code that can automatically dial your number? And just a forewarning, gentlemen, make sure you disclose to the female QR code bearer as to why you are busting out your smartphone in front of her digitally inspired chest. But on the flip side, maybe a belt buckle wouldn’t be the most “professional” way to market yourself…Unless you’re a part of the Red Light District’s payroll.

2. Digital Desserts

Top Five Fictional Geeky Guys

Maria Sass | July 14th, 2011

Last week I received some flak for my “Chic to be Geek” blog post, because the women mentioned were all fictional characters. Hello? Didn’t you ever hear of life imitating art? I am confident that real geek girls enjoyed watching, if not relating to, at least one of my geeks mentioned (cough Daria cough). Flip the switch, I would also bet that some of the creators of these characters most likely were true geeks themselves. Now that we got that out of the way, I am going to continue on with a much more entertaining geek post (lets be honest… who doesn’t enjoy take a stroll down Movie Memory Lane?). This time, however, it’s all about the fellas.

William Lichter, Can’t Hardly Wait- Good ol’ William gets my personal favorite vote. Classic picked-upon high school graduate, who is determined to get even with jocks that made his teen years miserable. In the process, he’ll learn about the joys of partying and getting completely hammered. Closing credits inform us that he will eventually form a hugely profitable computer company, just like another William, we know and love.

Paul Pfeiffer, The Wonder Years- Known as Kevin Arnold’s trusty sidekick, Paul was also known for being allergic to pretty much everything. Always an excellent student, during the last episode it was revealed that he went on to pursue law at Harvard. The best part? Josh Savino, who played Paul Pfeiffer, is now a practicing lawyer in the state of NY. What was I saying about life imitating art again? Boo-ya.
