>”the title is for google and the alt is for the user who mouses over the image and gets a description.”
You got it reversed; the title is for everyone and generally manifests as a tool-tip in most browsers. The alt attribute purpose is to give an indication of the content for text-browsers (such as google’s craw
ler).
I notice your post is not titled with an H1, but an H2. I don’t think you should be perpetuating the unproven theory that each page should only have one H1 tag without presenting the possibility that the first
HN tag is most important. For reference, refer to sites beating us for terms such as “PPC management”; they don’t do the tiered heading strategy and have many H1 tags on their pages.
Finally, a stylesheet should style an HN, not require a specific class named after the element – this is as bad CSS design as naming classes after colours.
Magic Mountain Man,
This post is titled with an H1 surrounding How to Write Blog Posts that Rank Well in Search Engines which is the heading.
All other sub headings are H2s
I currently am practicing using only one H1 per post preferablyat the top. If I was really trying to rank for a specific phrase on this page I would have put ONLY that phrase in the H1 but this was an instructional post so I just named it according to what it is, which is better for the end user in this case I believe. Now you must have read this post while we were editing the back end of the theme to allow for H1s as the title had a style setting of display:none for H1s until later this afternoon.
To reference other sites, there are many inbound linking factors that will affect the factors higher than H1 tags, as well as domain age and keyword density.
Your name is not Jimi, Rockstar.
Other points still stand
.
I’m siding with J-man
