3 SEO Takeaways from SMX West 2013

smx west 2013

This last week saw the 2013 Search Marketing Expo come and go. With speakers like Matt Cutts and Duane Forester, you can be sure there were a multitude of interesting forums that covered pertinent industry updates. While there is a wealth of information to be gleaned from a conference as prominent as SMX West, here are three major game changers that can contribute to the overall success of a website. 1.  MARKUP MATTERS  In 2011, I urged that you must not ignore Schema.org and that early adopters would see the biggest return.  Well it’s been nearly two years since Schema.org’s big debut at SMX Advanced 2011 and guess what…it’s is only becoming more evolved, more powerful, and a more important tactic to having content stand out effectively in search results.  Here are some really cool types of schema markups that are being used by savvy SEO-minded webmasters: Recipes with Reviews: … Continue reading

As the Farmer’s Update / Panda Update became a huge issue of discussion for both the SMX San Jose conference (also happening March 7-9th, 2011) and Pubcon South 2011. As all of this took place from March 7-10th, 2011, I thought we should address the Farmer’s update fallout first and get it out of the way to move on to other interesting topics! Here’s all the Farmer’s update information you need in one spot. summarized: Farmer’s Update / Panda Update: This update was initially called the Farmer’s update by Danny Sullivan and it’s now been revealed the internal name at Google was the Panda update. (Source Distilled’s Tom Critchlow). This next link is a great read / exercise for website owners with access to their analytics accounts who are concerned that they may have been directly affected by this update or would like to know how to check if they … Continue reading

The Best Products of CES 2011

The Consumer Electronic Show (CES) lived up to its hype this year by delivering around 50 tablets and featuring over 100 companies with 3D products.  About 140,000 people attended this event to see the most technologically advanced products from 2,700 companies, and without a doubt each guest left with a sense of amazement.  There is no way I would be able to cover all the products displayed this year, but I will be discussing the top products from CNet’s Best of CES 2011 Awards, and then revealing the number one product from each category. Let’s start the overview with a rapidly growing industry, Car Tech.  The three items that stood out in this category are the Toyota Entune, OnStar for After Market, and Countour Mobile.  Of these three new products the most coveted item in the eyes of CNet editors is the Toyota Entune.  Toyota Entune brings popular apps to your car … Continue reading

10 Ways to Not Be Spammy on Facebook & an AffCon Miami 2010 update

This past Dec 8th-11th was spent in Miami Beach, FL at the 2010 AffCon Affiliate Conference. Here are several takeaways and a blog I wrote on the flight home about how NOT to be spammy on Facebook… because the two are so related (well, some affiliates have attempted to and even succeeded in spamming Facebook so maybe!). Some AffCon 2010 Miami Takeaways: Re: Online Gaming & Apps and end user costs… 1)  The future of this space is making ALL the apps entirely free to the end user, but with simply making them download ‘add-on’s to remove the ads. The entire app is FREE and everything in it is free, but it has ads. If you want to get the ‘AD FREE’ version, then you need to simply download the ‘ad free pack’ which does that. By doing this ’3rd party download’, the ads go away and some monetary amount … Continue reading

SES SF Recap

The City by the Bay, Frisco, and The Golden Gate city these are just a few names I looked up on Wikipedia. What a town, and what a conference. SES San Francisco was held at the wonderful Moscone Center. Security was tight, so you know you have to do what it takes to get by those guys that hold walkie-talkies and bright blazers. Why do they still have the handhelds that look like something out of The Goonies? Who knows, but beyond these sentries lays a vast carpeted floor full of treasures. In attendance were all the heavy hitters: Google, Yahoo, Bing and us (Wpromote). The day started like most days, with breakfast. We were lucky enough to be staying right near the conference and the lovely Westin Hotel (no bed bugs allowed). We made our way to the conference center to start setting up for all of the of … Continue reading
