5 Things to Know When You’re Writing for SEO

Or, more specifically, five things that I always keep in mind when I’m writing content with SEO in mind (which is basically all the time). Writing SEO content can be tricky. I got into it after spending four years analyzing Romantic poetry and penning essays on American literature in college. If you wanted someone to analyze Emily Dickinson’s later works or discuss pre-colonial Puritan writings, I was your guy. Problem was – no one but my professors were interested in that stuff (I even suspect they were feigning) and I didn’t want to teach, so rather than be a creepy older dude offering his essay writing services to students on campus, I fell into SEO writing. I like to think I’ve picked up a few tips along the way. Know the Audience First off, an SEO writer has two audiences: the reader, and the search engine. To attract the attention … Continue reading

3 Reasons Why Your SEO Content Needs to Be Good

Anyone involved with organic SEO could tell you that the Age of the Machine hasn’t quite arrived yet. For one, SkyNet is still just a nerd’s wet dream, and the most advanced robotics research in Japan can’t even produce a working android that doesn’t look creepy and weird as hell. I’m not just talking about their inability to traverse stairs or emote convincingly; if their mangled, nonsensical attempts at SEO content are any indication, the ascendence of our Robotic Overlords isn’t gonna happen anytime soon. We’ve all read SEO content written by a computer. The garbled stuff reads like a Nigerian scammer and a used car salesman conceived a child on a bed sheet of blotter acid: anyone who reads it dismisses it as BS, and the latest search engine ranking algorithms (fellow computers, mind you!) don’t even pay it heed. In the early days of SEO, sheer quantity may … Continue reading

5 Things I Never Knew About SEO

The Wpromoter is proud to announce our first official Client Guest Blog, courtesy of Eva Wallace of StacksandStacks.com. We’re happy to have her represented here, and look forward to future posts! As manager of the StacksandStacks.com web team, I head up some of our research on Search Engine Optimization. Our team has learned about keywords and keyword phrases, Meta titles and tags. We even helped with our pay-per-click ad writing campaign, but I digress. The fruits of our labor definitely paid off:  we ranked #1 for many of our keywords in Google, and hit the first page of Google search for dozens more, advancing our business in ways we never knew possible. Then several months ago, our business website underwent a major overhaul. A new site design, new page layout, all-new category structure – it was a work of art, really – we were all very excited when we launched! … Continue reading

How to Boost Affiliate Revenue Using eBay, Facebook, and TinyURL

I recently sat in on an Affiliate Marketing panel at Pubcon 2008 in Las Vegas and learned that now is the best time to be an affiliate marketer. I IM’d this to Scott, the Director of Performance Marketing at Wpromote, and he suggested I ask why this is so, especially with the recent downturns in the economy. http://www.wpromote.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/pubcon-aaron-kronis-question.flv (note: taken using 12seconds.tv, hence only 12 seconds long…) The thinking behind the announcement? As the traditional advertising world converges with the interactive marketing world and high-end video ads are being integrated into websites, affiliate marketers have more opportunities to become media outlets and get a piece of ever-expanding online marketing budgets. With that being said, here is a great way to boost your affiliate revenue using filtered search results, affiliate links, and social media. Monetizing with Try Searching for something on eBay. For my example, I used ‘guitars’. Here are some … Continue reading
