Viral Video Friday!

Aimee | August 26th, 2011

Emile Hirsh After Dentist Is actor Emile Hirsch researching to play to role of 2009’s Internet phenomenon “David After Dentist”?  Not quite!  After getting his wisdom teeth removed, the Into The Wild actor did what any normal person would do – film himself and post it on YouTube.   Say something Nice When was the last time you said something nice to a complete stranger?  New York City-based prank collective Improv Everywhere encouraged this act of kindness to a few New Yorkers.  If you’ve got something nice to say, why not use a megaphone!   OK Go and the Muppets The Muppets are at it again, as these fuzzy characters collaborate with the innovative music group OK Go, known to have some pretty cool music videos, to remix a new theme song for their upcoming movie.  Did they get the approval of the grumpy old men?  Watch to find out! Be The Face of About.me… On A Billboard in Times Square!

Maria Sass | August 26th, 2011

Custom profile startup About.me, which is owned by AOL, is looking for the new ‘face of About.me’ and is kicking off a contest to find that face. If you’re not familiar with About.me, well, you should be. If you don’t have a personal website with your name as the domain, About.me is the next best thing. About.me offers people free profile pages, which can include your name, bio and links to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Foursquare, YouTube, and other sites that you have at one point signed up with (cough Formspring cough). Users can also upload high-resolution photos to the site, making profiles look fairly professional with minimal effort, or skill. The company is about to launch on a huge advertising initiative, and is trying to find the faces of the campaign from existing new users. New and existing About.me users will be asked to opt in to the contest once they log-in on their profile; once opted-in, any visitor to that profile can vote on any About.me page to be featured in the campaign. Three lucky About.me users who gain the most votes will be featured in the Fall campaign, which includes a billboard in New York City’s Times Square, as well as other OOH (out-of-home, for you non-advertising industry peeps) ads, in taxis and in-flight advertisements. Winners will also be flown to the city that never sleeps, along with a friend to attend the launch event for this new campaign. Seven runners-up will also be featured in the billboard Continue reading…

On This Day in Facebook

Dom | August 18th, 2011

Not many words are needed to express the awesomeness of the new “On This Day” rotating feature on Facebook, so I’ll keep this short. Basically, when you are on a Like page, or another Facebook page which isn’t your own, Facebook will rotate through a section on the right hand side of the page titled “On This Day.” This section shows the logged in account what they posted “On this day” in a particular year. As of now I have only noticed an “On This Day” post from a year ago, but they may go further back. Take a look at the “On This Day in 2010″ post I viewed today! The new feature can be both a comedic blessing, and a tragic curse. Finding an “On This Day” like the one I found today brought back some nice memories and added a smile to my face, but I can think of a few posts I am dreading to see. …and they are: I’m telling you, the Cleveland Cavaliers won’t lose more than 4 games straight. I’m soooo stoked for the Green Lantern movie. There’s no way it’s not amazing! This lump on my testicle will go away soon. (Why did I write this on Facebook?) Ok, this time I’m not mess’n round! There is no way the Cavs will lose more than 13 games straight. Borders will bounce back. Guarantee. Quote me: Obama will not give into the Republicans anymore. Fact. The Cavs will not lose more than 20 Continue reading…

New Link Building Tools

Kevin Burns | August 2nd, 2011

Let me restate the obvious, building links between your website and other high quality websites in your niche, is an essential aspect of your search engine optimization (SEO) campaign.  I am assuming your link building campaign is well on its way, you have reached out to the professional associations in your niche, you have guest blogged on websites in your industry, you have hopefully formed partnerships with other websites, and your social media efforts have been met.  Great.  But now what?  All the basics have been covered, so you have to dig a little deeper.  This blog will cover my favorite tools for the inevitable wall that all link builders run into, and how to get momentum again with your new link building prospects. Wordtracker is a tool that I have been using for about a week now with much success.  You can try it out with a free seven day trial.  They provide a great tutorial about their Link Builder tool, which outlines the steps to get started and the available capabilities.  Wordtracker generates a list of websites that are relevant to your website by collecting your website’s targeted key terms or websites that are already linking to you.  I am still getting used to this one, but overall it does a great job of finding not only websites that would be a good link prospect, but also the exact page that would be most appropriate for hosting your link. I wouldn’t be able to bring up great link Continue reading…

Old Spice Mano a Mano The Mano A Mano in el Bano Challenge – the epic tale of two manly men battling it out (via YouTube) for the title of “The Old Spice Guy.”  This week fashion model, actor and more notably the “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter” spokesperson Fabio challenged current Old Spice Guy, Isaiah Mustafax, to a battle of viral superstardom.  After incorporating the publics Tweets into a stream of videos – who did the people choose?  You’ll have to watch the video to find out! The LivingSocial Taxi It’s Cash Cab with a LivingSocial twist! Women’s World Cup & SEO

Kevin Burns | July 13th, 2011

Today at at 9am PST USA’s Women’s Soccer team will be playing in the semi-finals against France for the Women’s World Cup.  USA arrives at this semi-finals game after defeating one of the world’s favored teams in women’s soccer, Brazil.  USA battled back to defeat Brazil after red cards, penalty shots, and questionable calls left USA down one player, and behind by one goal with only minutes left to play.  Solo, USA’s goal keeper, summarized the last few moments of their match against Brazil well with this quote, “Even when we were a player down and a goal behind in extra time, you sensed that something was going to happen, the team kept fighting.” If you want to stay up to the moment with insights from soccer analysts, team members, and fans log on to Twitter.  Twitter will be a great place to begin your search for experts in the field of Women’s soccer.  Use the “Who To Follow” function on Twitter, type in searches like “Women’s World Cup” to follow influential tweeters like karalang15, and alexilalas22.  If you want to follow key terms, or hash tags on twitter, but you are not entirely sure how to find relevant hash tags, go on to HashTags.org, or search on Twitter.  My favorite hash tag to follow so far is #USAWNT, those are some fired up fans.  If following updates from twitter is not enough log on to ESPN 3 for live coverage online. Twitter can be a great tool for SEO as well.  All of Continue reading…
