Have You Heard The News About Twitter?

Amanda Moshier | February 10th, 2009

The social networking and microblogging service was slow to catch on, but since its  launch in 2006, Twitter has become a communications tool for over 6 million tech-savvy users. Today it seems everyone and their mom is tweeting, and as someone who only recently figured out how to work the phenomenon to my advantage, I’m enjoying the thrill tweets bring to my daily routine. The value of Twitter uncovered I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first. Why send updates to my personal network, isn’t that what Facebook is for? I wasn’t sure how Twitter could benefit me or whether or not it was a waste of time, but it was Wpromote’s very own Mike Mothner who got me interested in learning more. Last week, he told me that a tweet about a his recent blog post landed us on Fresh Inc., the blog owned by Inc., the go-to online resource for small businesses and entrepreneurs. It all started making sense. How Twitter helps me professionally In the past 24 hours alone, after tweeting about my blog on on Google Analytics, I have seen my ‘follower’ list triple in size. Internet marketers, social media experts, and online entrepreneurs have slowly begun to follow me on Twitter, and the more industry followers I gain (and the more interesting people I discover), the more I realize Twitter rocks. The downside of Twitter’s massive popularity – charging brands to Tweet Corporate and global brands have caught on to the Twitter craze, too, and are Continue reading…

4 Things You Can Do With Google Analytics

Amanda Moshier | February 9th, 2009

Last Friday I attended the first session of WproUniversity, a series of educational seminars given by Wpro staff to keep our team abreast of all the latest in SEM. The topic was Google Analytics (GA) (not exactly new but highly relevant nonetheless) and it was hosted by our knowledgeable President and CEO, Mike Mothner. While I’m not sure I understood all the points discussed, I did manage to come away with a few nuggets of practical advice and a topical understanding of how GA can be used to gain insight into the effectiveness of your advertising campaigns, content, and website design. Let’s take a look at 4 things you can do with GA to improve your bottom line. 1 – Determine the value of different sources of website traffic Using GA you can identify exactly how users are getting to your website. The GA interface divides traffic into 3 main categories: “direct” (type-in URL, bookmark, non-web link, etc.), “search engines”, and “referrer” (from another website, etc.), but the reporting is not limited to these categories alone. Within these 3 categories you can identify sources of traffic as generated by an email campaign or newsletter mailing, for example. The way this is done is a bit more technical than I intend to get in this post but the upshot is GA lets you determine the value of your marketing in terms of web traffic (and corresponding actions taken by visitors) by tagging links and creating unique URLs to be used in Continue reading…

What is social media optimization? and why are people asking me to tweet?

KRONiS | February 4th, 2009

Social Media Optimization? Search Engine Optimization? SMO, SEO, PPC(pay-per-click), what is all this stuff for? Social media optimization is a combination of using different social media networking profiles combined with humans interacting on a ‘social level’ to increase traffic and awareness. For example, if your website has easy to use features or buttons to help people ‘share’ your story on something such as their Facebook profile, chances are that interested people may just do that. Take advantage of people’s addictions to Facebook. I mean on several occasions I have had to grab a browser or cell phone to quickly ‘Tweet’ (send a twitter message) to my followers to let them know some information (i.e. the start time for a show or event, or perhaps to send out a warning about some type of computer glitch that could allow people to be exploited online) and to update Facebook to let others know what’s up who don’t use Twitter. This works because my Twitter messages automatically update my Facebook status. So by now, you folks (our dedicated readers) should all be experts enough about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to know that you NEED someone to manage it for your business full-time if you are to be successful and that it cannot be achieved purely by automated programming by ‘your web guy’s WYSIWYG’ editor with ‘meta tag fields’. With this hefty knowledge in your belt, I’m pretty sure that many of you are soon realizing that you also need someone to manage your Continue reading…

5 Things Wpromote Will Do In 2009

Amanda Moshier | February 2nd, 2009

Greetings, and happy Monday! Some of you are likely still recovering from Superbowl fun while others are getting into the groove of a new week. Not being a football fan myself (basketball is my thing), I skipped the requisite parties and instead used yesterday to go to the beach, meet up with an old friend, and watch House DVDs (my favorite). OR But I digress. 2009 has gotten off to quite a busy start here at Wpromote. Between launching new projects, optimizing existing ones, updating our website content, and brainstorming new initiatives, posting this very special blog about Wpromote’s 2009 goals has taken a backseat. The good news is that our goals have changed slightly since I last broached the topic so we have more good stuff to share with you than we would have had before! The bad news is…well, there is no bad news. Here goes our list of “5 Things Wpromote Will Do in 2009″, in no particular order: #1 – Go Global That’s right, folks – you heard it here first! 2009 will be the first year Wpromote *officially* offers its services internationally. With so much to offer, from PPC to SEO and Viral marketing services, you may wonder where in the world we would begin, but I’m here to tell you not to worry! It’s all figured out. We’re starting with QuickList…and Ali Quinn (our QuickList director) is stoked! #2 – See and Be Seen (and Heard) Think it’s possible to make Wpromote a household Continue reading…

6 Business Principles Never to Forget in 2009

Mike Mothner | January 29th, 2009

by Michael Mothner While there is no silver bullet for business success, I have no doubt that there are common guiding principles shared by successful businesses and entrepreneurs. In today’s turbulent and sometimes downright scary economic climate, I remind myself of the following principles each and every day. Read on for some insight and real-life examples of how we are employing these principles at Wpromote. 1. Do More With Less While this is not a concept you should only dust off in challenging times, now more than ever before this is a principle that should guide your decision-making. It is easier said than done, but if you look around your organization, your to-do list, your credit card statement or even your inbox, you will no doubt discover ways to get more done with less time, money, people or resources. For example, we found that as a fairly computer savvy overall group, we didn’t need to have a full-time IT person to handle run of the mill computer issues. Instead, we actively pitch in and help each other when we run into problems, and as a result, we get more done, faster, and with fewer staff. It turns out our collective knowledge is significantly greater than any one “specialist” in this area; a pretty cool discovery. 2. Stop Talking, Start Doing This is a big one for me. I find myself seemingly talking to people every single week that have a new “great idea”, but never seem to execute on them. Continue reading…
